Uganda Issues Terror Threat Alert Amid ADF Infiltration Concerns.

Ugandan security agencies have issued a public alert urging both citizens and visitors to remain vigilant after receiving intelligence of a potential terror threat from the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF). According to the alert issued on Tuesday, intelligence reports suggest that members of the ADF, a notorious militant group operating in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), have infiltrated Uganda with plans to launch attacks on specific targets using Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

“Information from intelligence agencies indicates that there are some ADF terrorists who have infiltrated into our city/country with intentions to attack particular targets using IEDs,” the alert said. It further urged the public to report any suspicious individuals or activities to the authorities.

Security agencies have reassured the public that they are actively working to identify and apprehend those involved in the plot. “Security agencies assure the public that we are working hard to ensure that the terrorists are identified, apprehended, or neutralized in order to save lives and property of the people,” the statement continued.

The ADF, which has been responsible for several deadly attacks in Uganda in recent years, remains a significant threat. The group, which has pledged allegiance to the Islamic State (IS), was blamed for the deadly double suicide bombings on November 16, 2021, targeting the Central Police Station and Parliamentary Avenue in Kampala, resulting in several deaths and injuries.

Authorities have called for heightened security measures, particularly at public spaces such as malls, markets, churches, and bars, with comprehensive screening of all entry points to ensure the safety of the public.
