Uganda Joins BRICS as Partner State in 2025

Moscow, Russia – Effective January 1, 2025, Uganda, along with eight other countries, will officially become a partner state of the BRICS group, which includes Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Thailand, and Uzbekistan. This announcement was made by the Russian Foreign Ministry, which confirmed that these nations have expressed their readiness to join the BRICS partnership.

The BRICS group, originally founded in 2006 by Brazil, Russia, India, and China—with South Africa joining in 2011—has expanded its influence significantly over the years. The recent inclusion of new partner states aims to enhance cooperation and coordination among member countries and partners in various sectors.

Brazil’s BRICS chairmanship will oversee the formal announcement of these partnerships once all confirmations are received. The ministry emphasized the importance of involving partner states in cooperative efforts within the association.

This expansion reflects BRICS’s commitment to fostering a multipolar world and enhancing collaboration among emerging economies. The addition of Uganda and other countries is expected to strengthen ties and promote economic development among member states.
