Uganda Mourns a Visual Genius — Celebrated Photographer Saad Shots Passes Away

Uganda’s creative and entertainment fraternity is in mourning following the tragic passing of renowned photographer Saad Shots, born Saad Byakuleka, who was confirmed dead on the evening of Friday, 18th April 2025.

Known for his exceptional eye behind the lens, Saad Shots built an iconic presence within entertainment, wildlife, and sports photography. With a calm demeanor and an infectious creative spirit, Saad was a name that carried weight across Uganda’s major music festivals, sports tournaments, and nature exhibitions. Whether he was backstage at a concert, shooting a football match, or capturing Uganda’s breathtaking wildlife, Saad Shots’ work spoke volumes without him ever needing to say a word.

A regular contributor and collaborator with both local creatives and international brands, Saad’s content shaped public perception and elevated the visual branding of numerous artists, athletes, and events. He became a key fixture in Uganda’s pop culture, crafting the visual identity of many top musicians and lifestyle brands through storytelling in still images.

His death has left a massive void in the creative space, as tributes flood social media, especially X (formerly Twitter), where he built a loyal following and often shared sneak peeks into his stunning visual work. His last public appearances were at several major events, including the Rolex Festival 2024, the UCL Trophy Tour Kampala Edition, and various wildlife field shoots in Murchison Falls and Queen Elizabeth National Parks.
