Isaac Arinaitwe, Principal Economist at the Ministry of Finance, highlighted the multifaceted benefits of the DTS program during a recent briefing. He noted that the system significantly improves the accuracy and timeliness of Value Added Tax (VAT) and excise duty declarations. The ability to monitor and track taxable goods has enhanced transparency and efficiency in tax administration.“

Deliberate enforcement activities and stamp monitoring have fostered a culture of compliance among taxpayers,” Arinaitwe stated. This increased accountability not only ensures that businesses adhere to their legal tax obligations but also curbs the sale of counterfeit or unlicensed products that evade taxation.

The implementation of DTS represents a significant step towards reducing counterfeit goods in Uganda’s market, which is essential for protecting consumers from substandard products and improving public health. The government’s commitment to this initiative reflects a broader strategy to enhance revenue collection and promote fair business practices across the country
