The 8 member select Committee instituted by Uganda Journalists Association (UJA) executive to investigate the fracas that led to journalists fighting fellow journalists outside Salt media premises at Lungujja, Kampala suburbs when women activist were demostrating against what they termed as disrespect of women by Pastor Alloyous Bugingo, has today released its report.
While releasing the report at UJA offices, the committee chairperson Ssendegeya Muhammad Byayi said the committee found out that salt media journalists Robert Mutebi and Eric Ssebalamu were among the people who beat up journalists Katongole Godfrey and Siraje Kiberu working with bukedde TV and record TV respectively.
The committee also found out that the two victim journalists sustained severe injuries and lost their belongings during the fracas which included, a black bag that contained a 50,000/= note, passport doccumentations and a memory card which belonged to Katongole Godfrey while Kiberu Siraje lost an itel phone and 200,000/= but Committe dismissed his assertions that he lost Samsung S6 phone.
The committee implicated Kiberu Siraje for breach of the profession code of conduct when he directed the protesters on what to do so that he could get good footage for his news story.
The committee has recommended a dialogue between the two parties which must be concluded within two weeks. Failure to amicably solve the matter the victims will be at liberty to proceed to courts of law for redress
