URA Expands Tax Base with Over 420,000 New Taxpayers.

Kampala, Uganda – The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has reported a significant expansion of the country’s tax base, with 420,183 new taxpayers registered in the first half of FY 2024/25. This brings the total number of taxpayers to 4,881,983, marking a substantial increase in revenue collections.

The new taxpayers contributed Shs 59.01 billion to revenue between July and December 2024. URA Commissioner General John R. Musinguzi attributed this growth to targeted initiatives aimed at enhancing compliance and simplifying tax processes.

The URA collected Shs 15.2 trillion during this period, surpassing its target by Shs 322 billion. This achievement is part of broader efforts to increase Uganda’s tax-to-GDP ratio and improve public service delivery by ensuring more individuals and businesses contribute to the tax base.
