UTB Seeks New CEO as Ajarova’s Term Approaches End.

Kampala, Uganda – The Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) has officially advertised the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) as Lily Ajarova’s second term nears its conclusion on March 5, 2025. Ajarova has served as CEO since January 2019 and has been instrumental in promoting Uganda as a premier tourist destination.

In an advertisement published in a government newspaper, UTB outlined the responsibilities of the CEO, which include supervising the deputy CEO, managers, and senior internal auditor. The contract for this role is set for three years. The board emphasized that the new CEO will provide strategic leadership to ensure the delivery of quality services aligned with the organization’s mandate under the Tourism Act.

Candidates interested in applying for the position must possess a bachelor’s degree in fields such as tourism, economics, law, social sciences, or business administration, along with a master’s degree in related disciplines from a recognized institution.

Ajarova is credited with several milestones during her tenure, including elevating Uganda’s ranking as a top tourism destination globally and enhancing its reputation in the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) sector. She has also overseen the launch of initiatives like the mobile application designed to improve tourist experiences in Uganda.

While Ajarova is eligible for reappointment, it remains uncertain whether she will seek to continue her role at UTB.
