Kampala, Uganda – Mariam Bukenya, popularly known as Ketra, a veteran actress from the acclaimed theatrical group The Ebonies, has voiced her frustration after being overlooked during the group’s recent 47th anniversary celebration. The event, which took place last week, celebrated the significant impact The Ebonies has had on the Ugandan theatre scene, particularly over the two decades that Ketra has been part of the ensemble.
Ketra expressed her disappointment at not being invited to participate in the milestone celebration, highlighting her long-standing contributions to the group. “I have dedicated 20 years to this crew, and it’s disheartening to be excluded from such an important event,” she stated.
During the anniversary celebration, several cast members were recognized with awards for their contributions to the thriving theatre industry. However, notable figures like Ketra were left out, prompting her to publicly call out the event organizers for neglecting key members of the drama group.
In light of her exclusion, Ketra has made it clear that she is open to collaborating with other stakeholders in the Ugandan film industry on independent projects. “I am ready to work with anyone who reaches out to me directly,” she affirmed, signaling her desire to continue contributing to the arts beyond The Ebonies.
