Victoria University Guild President, Khaukha M.A. Emmanuel, has issued a powerful statement condemning the political criticism directed at Makerere University Guild President, Ssentamu James Churchill. This follows a week of heavy backlash against Churchill for publicly engaging with President Yoweri Museveni during the launch of Makerere’s 2025 Research and Innovation Week.

Through his official social media platforms, Khaukha emphasized the importance of unity, decrying hate and radical extremism. He stated:
“As the Victoria University Guild President, I stand against hate, radical extremism and strongly condemn the negativity directed at Ssentamu James Churchill. All actions taken were in service to his community and represent the voices of both the majority and the minority. Our generation stands for unity, progress and Sustainable Development through Collaborative Efforts.”
Emmanuel went on to explain that the need for political tolerance has never been greater. “Ssentamu James Churchill is a young man who is fulfilling his duty as Guild President by representing the interests of his peers at Makerere University. The criticisms directed at him are rooted in political agendas that do not serve the best interests of the students he represents.”
In a passionate plea for respect and mutual understanding, Emmanuel reminded Ugandans of the importance of diversity and the need to embrace differences in the pursuit of a better future. “Our country is at a crossroads, and it is crucial that we stop fueling division and start focusing on the collective progress of our society. We must resist the temptation to tear down those who dare to stand in the face of adversity and work toward positive change,” he said. “We must stand together, not against each other.”
Emmanuel concluded his powerful message with a call for unity and peace, stressing that the future of Uganda lies in collaborative efforts rather than destructive partisanship. “Let’s uplift one another, support each other’s efforts, and build a stronger, more inclusive Uganda. The future is bright if we choose to work together.”
