Mayanja admitted that she did not conduct a proper background check on Mubiru before tying the knot, a decision she now regrets deeply. “He love-bombed me. Men of his kind ambush you and marry you without contributing any single coin,” she stated. Blinded by his charm and the fact that he drove a luxury Benz, Mayanja felt compelled to accept his proposal, believing he could help her out of her financial troubles.

At the time of their meeting, Mayanja was struggling with significant debts and a failing business. She described how Mubiru rushed her through the marriage process, convincing those around her of his intentions. “He was so good looking and looked responsible; there was no way I would turn him down,” she recounted.
Despite objections from her family, who suspected Mubiru’s intentions and noted that he had not paid the bride price, Mayanja proceeded with the wedding at Kibuli Mosque. However, their marriage quickly soured as Mubiru faced multiple arrests for fraud. Just a year into their union, Mayanja decided to leave him due to the shame and embarrassment his actions brought upon her.

Reflecting on her wedding day, Mayanja revealed that she wanted to flee but was dissuaded by friends like Mesach Ssemakula and Ronald Mayinja, who ensured the ceremony continued despite her hesitation. “I was faking smiles; they just wanted the function to get done,” she said.
