Cybersecurity Breach at Bank of Uganda Sparks Government Inquiry.

Kampala, Uganda - A serious cybersecurity breach at the Bank of Uganda (BOU) has prompted an official investigation by the Ugandan government after hackers reportedly withdrew over Shs 62 billion from the Central Bank’s treasury account. The revelation came during a parliamentary session where Hon. Henry Musasizi, Minister of State for Finance, confirmed that funds had been transferred to overseas accounts following the breach.

Musasizi disclosed that the hacking incident occurred approximately two weeks ago and involved sophisticated methods that compromised BOU’s firewalls. He stated that both the Auditor General and the CID are actively investigating the matter to determine how such a significant breach could occur.

In his remarks to Parliament, Musasizi urged caution regarding public speculation about the extent of the theft, promising a detailed report once investigations are complete. “When the audit and CID investigations are finalized, I beg that I come to this House and report,” he said.
