Azawi pointed out that while Kenzo has facilitated collaborations among artists, these initiatives have not translated into tangible benefits for the music community. “He has given artists collaborations, but where are they? Have they been helpful in any way? We are lagging behind because of such shallow thinking,” she lamented. Her comments reflect a growing frustration among musicians regarding the lack of substantial support and development within the industry.

Furthermore, Azawi expressed concern over the government’s apparent disinterest in amending copyright laws that could protect artists’ rights and enhance their livelihoods. “I pity Eddy Kenzo because he doesn’t understand how the government works. They will never allow the copyright law to be passed,” she asserted, highlighting a critical issue that many artists face in Uganda.
As the debate continues, Azawi’s remarks underscore the urgent need for reform and support within Uganda’s music industry, particularly in terms of governance and policy-making.
