During his time in Kigali, Verstappen will not only participate in the awards but also engage with Rwanda’s motorsport community through activities organized by Motorsport Rwanda. This initiative includes working with an FIA Affordable Cross Car, which has been locally built by the Rwanda Automobile Club (RAC) based on blueprints provided by the FIA. This grassroots program aims to nurture young motorsport talent in Rwanda, reflecting a commitment to developing the sport at the community level.

Verstappen’s involvement comes as part of a community service requirement following a controversial incident during a press conference at the Singapore Grand Prix, where he was penalized for inappropriate comments. Despite this, his participation in the FIA Awards is seen as an opportunity to promote motorsport and inspire local enthusiasts.

The Rwanda Development Board expressed pride in hosting this landmark event, emphasizing its significance for both local and international motorsport communities. The ceremony promises to blend celebration with discussions on sustainability, road safety, and global collaboration within the sport.
