Mayiga expressed his dissatisfaction with the content of Gravity Omutujju’s music, labeling it as disturbing and misaligned with Buganda’s cultural values. He instructed staff at the media houses to refrain from playing the artist’s songs and warned that those who defy this directive would be held personally accountable. “These songs disturb the public and fail to uphold Buganda’s values,” he stated.
The Katikkiro further questioned the intent behind Gravity’s provocative lyrics, asking, “Why does he sing such disturbing songs? Have you decided now to abandon grooming your talent to unsettling people? What is the aim?” This scrutiny extended to another artist, Yasin Mukasa, known as Lil Pazo, whose music Mayiga deemed equally troubling.
In his remarks, Mayiga cautioned artists against using controversy as a means to gain fame, emphasizing that such tactics often lead to short-lived success. “An artist who gains popularity through controversial and offensive language risks a short-lived career,” he remarked, highlighting the need for artists to focus on meaningful content that resonates positively with their audience.
