The contract signing ceremony took place at State House Nakasero, presided over by the Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Museveni. Muhammad Bbaale, representing the National Council of Sports (NCS), signed on behalf of the government, while Engineer Ibrahim Abdelaziz Mahmoud Mabrouk represented the Egyptian firm. The stadium is designed to enhance Uganda’s sporting infrastructure significantly.

In addition to the main stadium, the complex will feature two training fields equipped with changing rooms, a 2,000-seat indoor multi-sport arena, and a 25-meter semi-Olympic swimming pool. Outdoor courts for basketball, netball, volleyball, and badminton will also be included, along with parking facilities for 1,000 vehicles. Additional infrastructure will encompass roads, utilities, a sewerage treatment plant, ICT systems, perimeter fencing, and security installations.
This initiative marks Uganda’s commitment to improving its sports facilities ahead of upcoming international tournaments. With the completion of the Akii-Bua Olympic Stadium, local athletes will have access to modern training environments that could foster future sporting excellence.
