Akena Slams Defectors as UPC Faces Internal Turmoil.

The infighting within UPC has been intensified by a faction led by Peter Mukidi Walubiri, who has been vocal in challenging Akena’s leadership following a court ruling that annulled Akena’s election as president in 2015. This ruling has sparked a power struggle, with Walubiri demanding that Akena vacate his position.

During his speech, Akena expressed frustration over members who criticize UPC without actively participating in its growth. “We must show our commitment to this party,” he stated. He also pointed out Walubiri’s past electoral record as indicative of his dedication to the party’s cause.

The situation within UPC raises critical questions about its future viability as an opposition force in Uganda. With internal divisions weakening its structure, many wonder whether Akena can maintain control or if Walubiri’s faction will succeed in reclaiming leadership.
