The handover ceremony took place at Nakasero State Lodge, where Archbishop Dr. Stephen Kazimba transferred ownership to First Lady Janet Museveni, who also serves as the Minister of Education and Sports. The agreement included a 215.4-acre land title and a Memorandum of Agreement between the government, the Church of Uganda, and Busoga University Limited. Additionally, an Auditor General’s Report detailing the institution’s assets and liabilities was presented.
In her remarks, Mrs. Museveni expressed gratitude to the Church for donating the land for the establishment of a public university. She emphasized the importance of this initiative as a response to stakeholders’ appeals following the revocation of the university’s provisional license by the National Council for Higher Education in 2017.
The First Lady assured attendees that the government will begin improving infrastructure to meet university standards and that most inherited liabilities have already been settled. She called for patience from all stakeholders as they work towards completing the transition process.
