Gen. Saleh Critiques Omulangira Suuna’s Song on Wealth Creation.

The incident unfolded when Suuna was invited on stage to perform his song about wealth creation. He began by addressing the audience and expressing admiration for Gen. Saleh. However, as he performed, it became clear that the General was not impressed. After the performance, he took the microphone and bluntly stated, “Musicians have failed to make music; they can’t even make good music. The truth is, you have sung nothing.” This unexpected reprimand left Suuna visibly disappointed and feeling stranded on stage.

Gen. Saleh’s criticism reflects broader frustrations he has expressed regarding the influx of musicians into Gulu, particularly during festive seasons when many artists come to perform. In a handwritten letter dated November 17, he reached out to Eddy Kenzo, President of the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF), urging him to manage the activities of musicians during busy periods to prevent disruptions to his work.

The leadership of OWC has called upon stakeholders in the creative arts sector to align their activities with national development priorities. Rumors suggest that many musicians and comedians have been visiting Gen. Saleh’s residence in Gulu City seeking financial support, which may have contributed to his strict stance on their involvement.

As Uganda navigates its complex socio-political landscape, the relationship between government officials and the music industry remains a critical topic of discussion, highlighting the challenges of integrating cultural expression within governmental frameworks.
