Kampala, Uganda – In a significant leadership change, President Yoweri Museveni has appointed Hajati Sharifah Buzeki as the new Executive Director of the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA). This decision marks a pivotal moment in the governance of Uganda’s capital, placing Buzeki in the footsteps of previous female leaders, including Jennifer Musisi and Dorothy Kisaka.
Buzeki, who previously served as the Commissioner of Human Resource Management at the Ministry of Public Service, is the third woman to hold this position substantively. Her appointment comes at a time when KCCA is facing various urban challenges, including infrastructure development and service delivery to residents.

The announcement was confirmed by Deputy Presidential Press Secretary Faruk Kirunda, who stated that Buzeki’s name has been forwarded to the Public Service for formalization. Alongside her, Benon Kigenyi has been appointed as Deputy Executive Director, further strengthening the leadership team at KCCA.
Buzeki holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and Management, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences from the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU). She was selected from a shortlist released by the Public Service Commission (PSC) that included several notable candidates.
The PSC conducted a thorough search for the new executive director following the dismissal of Kisaka and her deputy, David Luyimbazi, due to negligence related to the collapse of the Kiteezi landfill, which resulted in over 30 fatalities. As Buzeki steps into her new role, she will be tasked with addressing pressing issues within Kampala while ensuring effective governance and service delivery.
