Ministry of Lands Plans to Launch “Rent-to-Own” Policy for Housing.

Kampala, Uganda – The Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development is set to introduce a groundbreaking “Rent-to-Own” policy aimed at providing citizens with affordable housing options. This initiative is designed to assist individuals and families lacking proper housing by allowing them to gradually purchase homes while renting.

The proposed policy comes in response to the ongoing housing crisis in Uganda, where many citizens struggle to secure adequate living conditions. The “Rent-to-Own” model will enable tenants to pay rent that contributes toward the eventual purchase of their homes, making homeownership more accessible for low- and middle-income families.

Officials from the Ministry have indicated that this policy will not only help alleviate housing shortages but also empower citizens by providing them with a pathway to property ownership. The initiative is expected to stimulate the real estate market and encourage investment in housing development across the country.

As the Ministry prepares for the rollout of this policy, consultations with stakeholders, including real estate developers and community organizations, are underway to ensure its effectiveness and sustainability. This move is anticipated to significantly impact the lives of many Ugandans seeking stable and secure housing.
