Kira, Uganda – Authorities at the Kira Division Police are investigating a disturbing case of aggravated torture involving a 4-year-old girl, Tumwekwase Claire, who was allegedly abused by her caregiver, Tumuhirwe Precious, a 35-year-old housemaid. The incident occurred in the early hours of December 27, 2024, in Kikoko Zone, Namataba Cell, Kirinya Ward.
The shocking abuse was discovered by Tumwekwase’s father, Mr. Mwesigwa Michael, who found his daughter severely injured after the alleged assault. Tumwekwase sustained life-threatening injuries and was immediately rushed to Nsambya Hospital, where she remains under medical care.
Following the attack, Tumuhirwe fled the scene but was apprehended by police in Kabale District. She is currently being held at Kabale Central Police Station while arrangements are made to transport her back to Kira Division for further questioning and legal proceedings.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Mr. Mwesigwa has been the primary caregiver for his children since separating from their mother two years ago. Tumuhirwe had been employed by the family for four years and was hired based on recommendations from acquaintances in her home district of Kabale. Investigators are now working to uncover the motive behind the alleged assault and any signs of previous abuse.
The Uganda Police Force has condemned this violent attack, particularly against a vulnerable child. A police spokesperson stated, “We are appalled by this tragic incident and assure the public that justice will be served.” They urged community members to remain vigilant against all forms of violence and report any suspected cases of abuse.
The case has sparked outrage in the local community, with many residents expressing disbelief over the severity of the attack. As the investigation continues, authorities are calling for anyone with further information to come forward.
