UBOS Releases Final Report of 2024 National Census.

Kampala, Uganda – The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has officially released the final report of the 2024 National Population and Housing Census, providing essential data to inform Uganda’s planning and development strategies. The report, titled Volume 1 (Main), is now available on the UBOS website and marks a significant milestone in promoting evidence-based decision-making for policymakers, development partners, and the general public.

Dr. Chris Mukiza, the Executive Director of UBOS, highlighted the importance of the census in national development, stating, “This report assures stakeholders of high-quality official statistics for informed planning, decision-making, and public debate.” The census was conducted under the theme “It Matters to be Counted,” emphasizing the need for accurate demographic and socio-economic statistics to address Uganda’s development challenges.

In addition to the main report, UBOS plans to release further monographs within six months, including detailed analyses such as the Multi-Dimensional Poverty Index and profiles for sub-counties and parishes. This additional data will provide deeper insights into the findings of the census.

However, in October 2024, UBOS acknowledged errors in the census results related to population figures by tribe and religion. Officials clarified that while the 2024 census figures were accurate, misreporting from the previous 2014 census led to confusion in percentage calculations.
