Kampala, Uganda – Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has blamed the state for the death of Muhammad Ssegirinya, the Member of Parliament for Kawempe North. Lukwago attributed Ssegirinya’s passing to systemic failures in providing adequate medical care during his detention.
Lukwago praised Ssegirinya’s resilience and advocacy for the underprivileged, criticizing the judiciary for neglecting his health needs and denying him timely access to medical treatment and bail.
He emphasized the need for reforms to ensure that those facing trial have access to medical facilities of their choice, highlighting the justice system’s failure to balance prosecution with humanity.
