The Leader of the Opposition, Joel Ssenyonyi, has strongly condemned the government’s absence during a parliamentary tribute to the late MP Muhammad Ssegirinya. Ssenyonyi expressed disappointment over the absence of ministers, including the Prime Minister, who traditionally play a key role in such tributes. This absence was seen as a breach of protocol and disrespect to the late MP, with Ssenyonyi calling it “unacceptable” and emphasizing that it tarnished the solemn occasion.

During the tribute, Ssenyonyi also highlighted the importance of respecting the rule of law, reflecting on Ssegirinya’s struggles during his lifetime. He noted that Ssegirinya suffered due to the disregard for the rule of law, including being granted bail only to be abducted outside Kigo Prison
