Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake has urged the government to release all political prisoners, calling for charges against them to be dropped and for them to be granted bail. Zaake made this appeal during a tribute to the late Kawempe North MP, Muhammad Ssegirinya, who faced political persecution throughout his life. Zaake expressed disappointment that the government did not provide adequate support to Ssegirinya during his illness and incarceration.

Zaake, who has also experienced imprisonment for his activism, emphasized the need for the government to address human rights concerns, particularly regarding the detention of opposition figures without trial. He recalled his own advocacy efforts, wearing clothes with the message “Free all political prisoners” for two years, to highlight the plight of those detained for their political beliefs.
