Construction of the new Hoima City Stadium is progressing at an extraordinary pace, with the Turkish construction firm SUMMA delivering work that could exceed the 18-month completion target. The $129 million multi-sports complex broke ground in July 2024, and in just six months, significant progress has been made, with essential elements of the stadium and its surrounding facilities already taking shape.
The stadium will feature a 20,000-seater main arena, an indoor multi-sports arena with a seating capacity of 2,000, a semi-Olympic-sized swimming pool, and outdoor courts for basketball, netball, and volleyball. The scale of the development is evident, with a parking facility being built to accommodate over 1,000 vehicles. This reflects the stadium’s capacity to host large-scale events and further solidifies Hoima City’s role as a key location for Uganda’s growing sports industry.

During a site inspection by the National Council of Sports (NCS), Joseph Oluga, Assistant General Secretary for Administration, expressed his satisfaction with the rapid development, highlighting the excellent quality of work done so far. The project has garnered positive feedback from supervising consultants from the Ministry of Works and Transport, who also commended SUMMA for its dedication to high standards and efficient project management.

This development is part of Uganda’s broader vision to strengthen its sports infrastructure ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which the country will co-host with Kenya and Tanzania. The stadium is poised to boost Hoima City’s economy and provide ample opportunities for sports tourism. As the project continues, the city is positioning itself as a significant sports hub, supporting the government’s ambitions to improve the nation’s international sports standing.
