Kampala, Uganda – January 2025, In a show of solidarity, the Speaker of Parliament, Ms. Anita Among, has pledged to sponsor the education of Aliyah Nagirinya, the daughter of the late Kawempe North Member of Parliament, Muhammad Ssegirinya. The late MP passed away on Thursday, January 9th, 2025, at Lubaga Hospital in Kampala after a long battle with illness.

During a special parliamentary session on Friday, January 10th, 2025, Ms. Among expressed her commitment to covering all educational expenses for the late MP’s daughter. The Speaker assured that Aliyah Nagirinya, who is currently of school-going age, would be supported through both her primary and secondary education.
This gesture was made as part of a broader tribute from the Parliament of Uganda to honor the late Ssegirinya, who was remembered for his strong advocacy for his constituents and his outspoken stance on various social issues.

“Aliyah’s education is a crucial foundation for her future, and we must ensure she is not deprived of the opportunities her father had hoped for her,” Ms. Among stated in her remarks.
The commitment came after the proposal by the MP for persons with disabilities, Mr. Bumali Mpindi, who urged fellow legislators to make individual contributions of at least Shs500,000 to support the late Ssegirinya’s family during this challenging time.
The Speaker’s pledge was welcomed by MPs, who expressed their support for the initiative. The late MP’s family, particularly his widow, expressed gratitude for the timely and meaningful gesture, which is expected to provide much-needed relief to them in the wake of the loss.
