Kampala – January 2025 Prominent Ugandan musician Vyroota, real name (details undisclosed), has been arrested and detained on allegations of procuring an abortion, a charge carrying severe legal consequences in Uganda.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed the arrest of the 21-year-old Maria hitmaker, revealing that the singer is implicated in the termination of a pregnancy involving a young woman whose identity remains confidential. Onyango stated, “Vyroota is currently under detention at Kira Division Police as we investigate the allegations thoroughly. The law takes such matters seriously, and we will follow due process.”

According to initial reports, the girl disclosed her pregnancy to Vyroota, expecting support, but the singer allegedly proposed an abortion instead. When she rejected his suggestion, she approached his manager, Walugembe, for guidance. Unfortunately, the manager is accused of siding with Vyroota, coercing the girl into terminating the pregnancy.
Police reports indicate that the abortion was successfully carried out, but the decision backfired when the girl’s parents became aware of the situation and lodged a formal complaint. Authorities acted swiftly, leading to the arrest of both Vyroota and his manager.

Ugandan law prohibits abortion except under strict circumstances involving medical professionals. The singer now faces potential charges related to unlawful abortion and conspiracy, which could impact his burgeoning music career. His management team has yet to release an official statement.
This development raises significant questions about reproductive rights, accountability, and the social responsibilities of public figures. More details are expected as investigations proceed.
