Madrat & Chiko Defend Performing at Political Events Amid Criticism.

Ugandan comedy duo Madrat & Chiko have responded to criticism regarding their performances at events organized by political figures, emphasizing that their work as entertainers should not be misconstrued as political endorsement. In a recent statement, Chiko clarified that their primary goal is to perform and earn a living, regardless of the political affiliations of the event organizers.

Chiko stated, “Performing at an event hosted by a political figure does not mean we support that person’s political party.” Madrat echoed this sentiment, asserting that he is open to accepting bookings from any political party. “When someone from DP calls me to work, I will go. When someone from NUP calls me to work, I will go. When someone from NRM calls me to work, I will go, because a job is a job,” he affirmed.

The duo’s remarks shed light on the challenges entertainers face in navigating the political landscape in Uganda. They reiterated that their performances are strictly about entertainment and earning a living, not about endorsing specific political ideologies.
