Kampala, Uganda – In a significant move to bolster the Afro Arab Youth Council (AAYC), President Yoweri Museveni has appointed former Prime Minister Ruhakana Rugunda as the Special Envoy tasked with leading fundraising efforts for the construction of the AAYC headquarters in Nakawuka, Kampala. The announcement was made during a high-level meeting at State House, Entebbe, on January 30, 2025.

During the meeting, AAYC Secretary General Abbas Agaba briefed the president on the council’s progress and future objectives. He expressed appreciation for Museveni’s ongoing support, particularly his efforts in mobilizing funds for the headquarters project. Agaba also requested follow-up communication to Zimbabwe and other Arab League nations to enhance the fundraising campaign.
Rugunda’s appointment comes at a crucial time as the AAYC prepares for its upcoming anniversary celebrations, which have been postponed to May 25 to accommodate Ramadan. The council aims to strengthen ties between African and Arab youth and promote sustainable development across both regions.
