Kampala, Uganda – In a recent emotional revelation, singer Iryn Namubiru has shared the painful details of her estrangement from her mother, Justine Nyanzi, which has lasted over 11 years. The rift stems from a traumatic incident in May 2013 when Namubiru was arrested at Narita International Airport in Japan after authorities discovered 2kg of drugs in her luggage.

Namubiru faced serious charges of drug trafficking but was ultimately cleared after investigations revealed she had been set up by her own brother and manager, Thadeus Mubiru. The betrayal cut deep, but the shock was compounded by her mother’s indifferent reaction when she confronted Thadeus about his actions. Namubiru recounted, “My mother did not react at all; she was indifferent as I told her that this was the person who did all this to me.”

Following her return to Uganda, the emotional distance between mother and daughter grew. Namubiru described a painful encounter where her mother refused to speak with her, saying she never wanted to hear anything from her again. This estrangement has left lasting scars on Namubiru, who continues to navigate the complexities of family relationships while focusing on her music career.
