Renowned Ugandan singer Shakira Kamulegeya, popularly known as Shakira Shakiraa, has officially declared her intentions to contest for the Kampala Woman Member of Parliament (MP) seat. The talented artist expressed her strong desire to bring about meaningful change, particularly focusing on the welfare of women and children in the capital city.

In a recent media interview, Shakiraa emphasized that her political ambitions stem from a deep-seated commitment to uplifting the marginalized. She highlighted the persistent oppression faced by women in Uganda and vowed to be a vocal advocate for their rights.
“Women in Uganda have faced numerous challenges for far too long. My goal is to ensure that their voices are heard and their rights are protected,” she stated passionately.
Shakiraa also expressed her dedication to addressing the plight of underprivileged children and holding absentee fathers accountable for neglecting their parental responsibilities.
“Children are the future of our nation. We must ensure that they are cared for and given opportunities to thrive,” she added.
With her announcement, Shakiraa joins the growing list of entertainers venturing into Ugandan politics, inspired by pioneers such as Bobi Wine.
