Youth Arrested for Impersonating Maama Fiina in Fraud Scheme.

Frank Ssempa, a young man from Busoga, has been arrested and is being held at the Kampala Central Police Station (CPS) on charges of impersonation and fraud. Ssempa allegedly ran a fraudulent scheme where he posed as the famous Ugandan traditional healer, Sophia Namutebi, widely known as Maama Fiina.

The scheme involved creating several fake social media accounts under Maama Fiina’s name and distributing false contact information to trick individuals seeking Maama Fiina’s help. The scam led to significant financial losses for many victims who were duped into believing they were contacting the well-known healer.

Authorities tracked Ssempa to Busoga, where he was arrested after an extensive investigation. Maama Fiina, visibly upset, shared her frustration over the damage caused to her reputation by this deceitful act. She noted that the fraudulent activities forced her to halt her charitable efforts, as the scam had deeply affected her trust with the public.

In a surprising turn, Ssempa expressed remorse and explained that he was coerced into the scheme by a friend during a time of financial desperation. Maama Fiina, in an act of compassion, offered Ssempa a chance for redemption by providing him employment in one of her businesses, on the condition that he refunds the money he had fraudulently obtained.

Police are still on the lookout for an accomplice who is believed to be involved in the scam and remains at large.
