Media personality and TikTok journalist Janie Namukasa has formally apologized to Ugandan music icon Jose Chameleone after previously making defamatory statements against him. The apology follows legal action initiated by Chameleone, who demanded both financial compensation and a retraction of the allegations.
Namukasa had claimed in a widely circulated TikTok video that Chameleone was arrested in the U.S. for allegedly assaulting his caretaker, Juliet Zawedde. Despite Chameleone’s public denial, she initially stood by her claims. However, legal threats compelled her to retract the statements.
In her apology, Namukasa admitted her sources had personal issues with Chameleone and that her information was false. She expressed regret and wished Chameleone good health ahead of his reported surgery.
It remains uncertain whether Chameleone will accept the apology or pursue further legal action.
