Kampala, Uganda – The Ministry of Works and Transport has announced a complete closure of the crucial Karuma Bridge from March 10 to March 31, 2025. This closure is necessary to facilitate the installation of expansion joints, a vital component for ensuring the long-term structural stability and enhanced traffic flow on the Kampala–Gulu Highway.

The bridge was previously partially reopened on December 20, 2024, for light vehicles only, following urgent repairs. Gen. Edward Katumba Wamala, Minister of Works and Transport, stated that while the temporary closure may cause inconvenience, these upgrades are essential for the reliability of Uganda’s transport network. The Ministry encourages motorists to plan their journeys accordingly.
