Kampala, Uganda — Renowned journalist Zambali Bulasio Mukasa has officially declared his intention to contest for the Nansana Municipality Member of Parliament (MP) seat in the 2026 general elections under the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket. Mukasa, who has been practicing journalism for 17 years, has made it clear that he is transitioning fully into politics and does not plan to return to television as a journalist.

The former NBS TV and CBS journalist made the revelation while addressing his political ambitions, stating that he believes he has reached the peak of his journalism career. Mukasa was recently placed on forced leave by his former employers at NBS Television after publicly endorsing Bobi Wine and the NUP candidate Nalukoola in the Kawempe North by-election.
Mukasa’s journey in the media industry spans nearly two decades, during which he built a reputation as a respected journalist. He has worked with top media houses, including CBS Radio and NBS Television, where he became a household name. However, his decision to openly support Bobi Wine’s political movement led to tensions with his media employers, culminating in his forced leave.

"I have been in media for seventeen years. I have worked with CBS and NBS Television. I reached the pinnacle of my journalism career, and I am going into politics. I have no plans of coming back on television as a journalist," Mukasa stated.
Mukasa’s decision to run for the Nansana Municipality MP seat aligns with the broader trend of media personalities and entertainers transitioning into politics. His background in journalism has allowed him to engage deeply with national issues, positioning him as a strong candidate in the upcoming elections.
Although Mukasa has declared his ambition, securing the NUP party ticket will be a challenge. The Nansana Municipality MP seat is currently occupied by Wakayima Musoke, who is seeking re-election. Other notable contenders for the NUP ticket include musician Ibrahim Mayanja, popularly known as Big Eye, and another NUP foot soldier.

Given the growing influence of the NUP in Uganda’s political landscape, the party’s primaries are expected to be highly competitive. Mukasa’s popularity as a journalist and his strong connections with NUP supporters will play a crucial role in determining his chances of securing the party nomination.
As the 2026 elections approach, all eyes will be on Mukasa’s political journey to see how he navigates his transition from journalism to electoral politics.
