The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has intensified its efforts to reclaim Buganda from the opposition, launching a strategic campaign in Kyotera district. A high-profile delegation of ministers, Members of Parliament, and local leaders convened at Nabbunga playgrounds in Kalisizo Town Council to rally support for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and NRM flag bearers in the upcoming 2026 elections.
NRM’s Vision for Buganda
Hosted by State Minister for Microfinance Kyeyune Haruna Kasolo, the campaign under the theme “Buganda for Museveni” saw key figures highlight the government’s past achievements and upcoming plans for Buganda. The leaders emphasized that the NRM government remains committed to delivering services, pointing to completed and ongoing projects such as:
- Construction of over 15 health centers in Buganda districts.
- Establishment of SEED schools to expand access to education.
- Implementation of economic empowerment programs like Emyooga and the Parish Development Model (PDM), which provide affordable credit to improve household incomes.
NRM Deputy Secretary General Rose Namayanja made a bold call for Buganda residents to align with the ruling party, warning that failure to do so could leave the region behind in national development.

"It is through the NRM MPs that services are lobbied from the government. So vote for President Museveni and the NRM members of parliament to follow up on government promises," she urged.
She further emphasized the need for competent and result-oriented MPs, discouraging the electorate from voting for “non-performers” who fail to bring government services to their constituents.
Minister Kasolo reassured residents of Kyotera and Buganda at large that the government remains committed to solving their challenges.

"The NRM government is the only one capable of understanding your challenges and finding lasting solutions," he said.
Several high-ranking ministers, including Ruth Nankabirwa (Energy), Kiryowa Kiwanuka (Attorney General), John Chrysostom Muyingo (Education), Aisha Sekindi (Water), Amos Lugolobi (Economic Planning), and Hanifah Kawooya (Health), attended the event, along with former Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi. Their presence demonstrated the party’s determination to regain influence in Buganda.

As the 2026 elections approach, the NRM is deploying a robust strategy to win over Buganda, leveraging its service delivery record and urging residents to vote for leaders who can ensure continued progress. With a team of influential leaders leading the charge, the ruling party is determined to wrest the region from opposition control.
