On May 18, 2025, Uganda Airlines marked a historic milestone by successfully completing its inaugural direct flight from Entebbe International Airport to London Gatwick Airport. Departing Entebbe at approximately 10:15 AM, the Airbus A330-800neo touched down in London later that afternoon, officially launching Uganda Airlines’ first-ever route to Europe.

The nonstop service will operate four times weekly—Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday—with same-day return flights from London. This new route is a key part of Uganda Airlines’ international expansion strategy, enhancing connectivity between Uganda and one of the world’s busiest aviation hubs.

Speaking at the launch, Uganda Airlines CEO Jenifer Bamuturaki highlighted the strategic importance of this route, noting that flight schedules are synchronized to facilitate smooth connections across Uganda Airlines’ growing African network. The airline’s modern Airbus A330-800neo offers passengers long-haul comfort, fuel efficiency, and an elevated travel experience.

The launch coincides with Uganda Airlines’ recent expansion into Abuja, Lusaka, and Harare, further solidifying Entebbe as a regional hub. The route is expected to boost trade, tourism, and investment between Uganda and the UK, with trade between the two countries reaching approximately GBP 860 million in 2023. Minister of Works and Transport Gen. Katumba Wamala described the flight as “more than a flight; it is a bridge for business, investment, and people-to-people connections.”
