Musician Phina Masanyalaze Enters Race for Female Workers MP Seat.

Phina Mugerwa, popularly known as Phina Masanyalaze, has officially declared her candidacy for the Female Workers’ Member of Parliament seat under the special interest groups category. Speaking at a press briefing held at Hotel Africana Kampala, Masanyalaze explained that the Female Workers’ seat is elected through a college vote involving various labor unions.

She confidently stated that she currently commands the support of approximately 500 voters, drawn from more than 50 unions, each contributing about 10 voters. “I come not just as a musician but as a workers’ advocate,” she said, emphasizing her focus on issues such as low wages, job insecurity, harassment of women workers, and unsafe working conditions.

Phina, who serves as the General Secretary of the Uganda Musicians Association and the Vice Chairperson of the Uganda National Culture Centre Board, indicated plans to form cooperatives among different labor unions and support them financially.
