Media personality Sheilah Gashumba has faced sharp criticism online following the BBC Africa Eye documentary “Death in Dubai” that exposed a sex trafficking ring involving Ugandan girls. Critics linked Gashumba’s recent social media statements and lifestyle promotion to the ongoing probe, accusing her of endorsing or indirectly promoting risky activities.
In response, Gashumba denied any involvement in or support for trafficking. She emphasized her long-standing advocacy for the rights and welfare of young girls, recalling a 2022 tweet where she questioned the safety of girls below 18 traveling to Dubai or Qatar. Gashumba highlighted her own journey, which involves transitioning through careers such as TV presenting, bar hosting, emceeing, and now DJing, underscoring her commitment to working hard for her success. She urged young girls to avoid excuses and exploitative situations by following a path of perseverance and hard work.
