Kampala | September 19, 2025 – The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has concluded its highly contested Youth Parliamentary primaries across 151 districts, producing new flag bearers ahead of the forthcoming National Youth Council elections. The most watched race — the National Female Youth MP primaries — ended with Ampaire Diana registering a resounding victory.
According to results announced by Fred Jachan Omach, Vice Chairperson of the NRM Electoral Commission, a total of 3,262 votes were cast in the female youth category. Diana secured 1,912 votes (58.6%), cementing her status as the party’s dominant choice.

She was followed by Kanyesigye Mercy, who polled 1,269 votes (38.9%), in a spirited run that, however, fell short. Other aspirants recorded marginal figures: Ikyiriza Gold (41 votes, 1.3%), Katusiime Suzan (21 votes, 0.6%), Chebet Sandra Sarah (12 votes, 0.4%), and Kobusingye Olivia (7 votes, 0.2%).
Ampaire’s win has been described as “a victory for grassroots mobilization,” given her strong presence in universities and rural youth councils, where she pledged to champion female empowerment, education access, and entrepreneurship. Analysts argue that her commanding margin reflects her ability to consolidate both institutional and grassroots support within the NRM machinery.
Her victory places her in a favorable position to challenge candidates from other political parties in the National Youth MP elections scheduled for later this year.
