Beatrice Chebet delivered a stunning performance to win the 5000m title at the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 2025, completing the long-distance double she first achieved at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Chebet, who won the 10,000m crown a week earlier, outkicked her compatriot and close friend Faith Kipyegon in a tactical race, crossing the finish line in 14:54.36.

Kipyegon, the 1500m champion at the championships and defending 5000m champion, took silver with a time of 14:55.07. Italy’s Nadia Battocletti secured bronze in 14:55.42, earning her second medal in Tokyo after her 10,000m silver. The race was characterized by a slow pace and strategic positioning before a decisive kick in the final 150 meters, with Chebet overwhelming Kipyegon to claim Kenya’s fifth gold in Tokyo.
