Police spokesperson Fred Enanga said Kabuleta was released at around 6pm and will reported to CID Kireka as investigations continue.

His file is at the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions [DPP] for perusal after which the journalist turned pastor will be taken to court.

Earlier in the day, police dispersed several protesters who had camped at the Special Investigations Division (SIU) in Kireka demanding the release of former New Vision journalist.

His lawyers Aggrey Mpora and Daniel Walyemela rushed to the Civil Division of the High Court Tuesday evening seeking orders compelling the Commandant of the Special Investigations Unit Kireka, Elly Womanya, Inspector General of Police, Martins Okoth Ochola and the Attorney General, William Byaruhanga to produce their client in court.

The application, according to Uganda Radio Network, was supported by an affidavit by Kabuleta’s wife, Rebecca Kabuleta.

She said that ever since Kabuleta was arrested police have blocked his lawyers, doctors and next of kin from accessing him.

Police alleges that through “Kabuleta’s Weekly Rants” on Facebook, Kabuleta referred to President, Yoweri Museveni as a gambler, thief and liar.
