Stop telling lies-Museveni warns Katikkiro Mayiga

President Museveni has warned the Buganda Prime Minister [Katikkiro] Charles Peter Mayiga against telling lies about the National Coffee Bill, 2018.

Addressing press at Nakasero State Lodge on Thursday night, President Museveni said the bill seeks to register and regulate coffee farmers for quality control before exportation.

“There are no licenses for coffee. I heard the Katikkiro telling lies about that,” said President Museveni.

The President refuted claims made by Mayiga about the need for licenses for the coffee growers.

“But I sent a message to somebody that he [Mayiga] should stop that nonsense. He was lying. He should stop there.”

Museveni said there is no licence and what is happening is registering.

“Registering is not licencing,” he noted, explaining that the ones who buy on the international market are the ones who need this for traceability.

“Otherwise, if you don’t have traceability, your coffee may not be bought,” the president explained, crossing reports by Mayiga who last week claimed the bill was brought in bad faith, warning that it should be handled with care.
