Football’s World governing body FIFA confirmed that there wont be alcohol in and outside the eight stadiums which will host the tournament’s 64 matches in Qatar just days before the tournament commence.
“Following discussions between host country authorities and FIFA, a decision has been made to focus the sale of alcoholic beverages on the FIFA fan festival, other fan destinations and licensed venues, removing sales points of beer from Qatar’s FIFA world cup 2022 stadium perimeter,” said the FIFA statement.
Alcohol was set to be served in select areas within stadiums but the Muslim country is considered to be highly conservative and tightly regulates alcohol sales and usage thus the banishment.
