Musasizi disclosed that the hacking incident occurred approximately two weeks ago and involved sophisticated methods that compromised BOU’s firewalls. He stated that both the Auditor General and the CID are actively investigating the matter to determine how such a significant breach could occur.

In his remarks to Parliament, Musasizi urged caution regarding public speculation about the extent of the theft, promising a detailed report once investigations are complete. “When the audit and CID investigations are finalized, I beg that I come to this House and report,” he said.

The incident has raised concerns among lawmakers about financial security and governance within Uganda’s banking sector. Opposition leaders have criticized the government for its handling of communications related to this serious issue, demanding greater transparency and accountability.
As authorities work to address this breach, there is an increasing call for improved cybersecurity protocols to safeguard national financial assets against future threats.
