Kampala, Uganda — In a surprising twist to the build-up toward the 2026 general elections, Motiv Kasagga, the renowned creative force behind Bobi Wine’s political visuals and official videographer to the National Unity Platform (NUP), has officially withdrawn his candidacy for the position of Lord Councillor Kawempe North II in the upcoming 2026 general elections.
In a statement shared via his verified X account (formerly Twitter) on June 18, 2025, Kasagga—whose real name is Kasagga Bashir—revealed that the decision came after a “harmonization process” with fellow NUP comrades and party leaders.

“I would wish to inform all my comrades, friends and supporters that I have taken a bold decision to withdraw my candidacy for the position of Lord Councillor Kawempe North II after a harmonization process with fellow comrades and my leaders,” Kasagga stated.
While he did not disclose the specifics of the harmonization outcome, Kasagga emphasized that leadership goes beyond holding positions, echoing the words of his mentor, NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine).
“Leadership is not about positions—just as our president @HEBobiwine has always stated,” he added.
He further confirmed that he will redirect his focus to another position within his electoral area, which will be communicated in due course.
The decision, though unexpected, is seen as part of NUP’s ongoing internal efforts to streamline its candidate line-up and avoid unnecessary competition in party strongholds like Kawempe. The area has historically shown overwhelming support for opposition-aligned candidates.
Supporters praised Kasagga’s maturity, political discipline, and commitment to the broader movement over personal ambition. Many noted that his strong influence in media and grassroots mobilization will remain vital during NUP’s national campaigns heading into 2026.
