Kampala, Uganda – The National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) has received a second batch of 1,700 registration kits, bringing the total to 2,700. This equipment is crucial for the upcoming mass national ID renewal and registration exercise.

The kits were received by officials led by NIRA Executive Director Rosemary Kisembo. The equipment is being shipped into the country in phases, with more expected to arrive soon. NIRA has already begun training staff on how to use the equipment to ensure a smooth registration process.
The mass registration exercise aims to renew national IDs that expired in 2024 and add advanced security features. At least 15.8 million national identity cards are set to expire by August 2025, and the government has extended the expiry period by one year.
