Police Crack Down on Armed Criminal Syndicates in Eastern Uganda.

Following a series of violent crimes from November 2024 to early 2025, police forces in eastern Uganda, including the Flying Squad, have been intensifying operations against well-organized armed gangs engaged in robbery, murder, and terror activities across multiple districts such as Iganga, Kamuli, Mayuge, and Jinja.

Investigations have revealed that many gang members have criminal backgrounds and were previously incarcerated at Kirinya Prison before regrouping to commit further offenses. Confiscations from recent police raids include firearms, ammunition, stolen vehicles, and fake number plates used to evade detection. Authorities emphasize that these gangs operate with distinct roles, including clinical officers, triggermen, mechanics, and recruiters, functioning as complex criminal enterprises that threaten regional security.
