Police Reject Kidnapping Claims, Insist NUP Members’ Arrests Are Lawful.

The Uganda Police Force has dismissed allegations that NUP members are being kidnapped, insisting that the recent detentions fall within lawful investigations. Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke addressed journalists to clarify that arrests, including those related to unlawful military drilling, are part of their mandate since the force’s inception in 1906.

Among those charged include Calvin Tasi (Bobi Giant) and NUP’s deputy spokesperson Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro. Rusoke explained that unlawful military drills are criminal offenses under the Penal Code and emphasized no one is above the law, rejecting politicians’ claims as politically motivated. The police maintain discretion over arrest methods and urged politicians to engage with the law through parliamentary channels rather than social media.
